Ars Poetica

Ars Poetica

Poetry is what you write when you think about
the physical therapists you see  day after day
at the gym. Though you seldom speak to them,
you almost feel as if you know them. You hear
them talk to their patients and think about who
you would go to if you ever needed therapy again.

Poetry is what you write when you think about
going to the dealership to have your car washed
because they offer free car washes for customers,
and when you leave you notice the carwash guy
has changed the seat position and you have to
try to figure out how to make it right again.

Poetry is what you write when you have finished
the book you are reading and are about to start
another one,  and you have done your shopping
at Trader Joe's because a snowstorm is arriving
tomorrow, and your tea is getting cold, and
you have already taken the dogs out.

Inspired very roughly by Ars Poetica #100:  I Believe, by Elizabeth Alesander.

  1. Ah, I love this poem. A glimpse of daily life that is really comforting because it is life on an ordinary day, a real blessing.
